About SEND Yogis

In January 2020, the concept of creating a Specialist Yoga company was born, resulting in the formation of SEND Yogis. Our initial goal was to offer Yoga to children with Autism and ADHD through classes and 1:1 sessions. Despite facing setbacks due to lockdowns, we launched classes in December 2020 and 1:1 sessions in May 2021. By June, we expanded to provide Chair Yoga. A year later, after reflecting on our growth, we revamped our look, system, and slogan while maintaining our core principles of accessibility and creating a non-judgmental safe space.

Our Values and Principles

At SEND Yogis we have four key Values and Principles:

Communication

We believe communication is key to providing the best service we can to our clients and attendees. This is why we ask that all our clients and attendees keep us informed about what is going on in the attendees so we can best cater to their ever-evolving needs.

A safe, non-judgemental environment

When attendees enter our space, we promise to always create a safe, non-judgemental environment for the practise itself, but also around their feelings, behaviours and lives. Everything we do is lead by our clients and attendees, and so this value rings true through all our work.

The happiness of our Community

The most important thing for us is that our clients and attendees enjoy working with us. Yoga is not for everyone, we know that, but we want to offer the best experience we can in order for individuals to make their decision confidently.

Care on and off the mat

Yoga does not stop when attendees leave their mat, or even the room. The techniques we furnish them with allow them to cope with a whole host of situations in daily life. We also understand that anything they may bring onto the mat can impact their practise so keeping communication flowing between home and us helps us provide the best care possible.

About Our Founder

Rach Lanning sat on a chair wearing SEND Yogis merchandise

Rach began practicing yoga in the summer of 2018, shortly after completing her GCSEs. Her goal was to alleviate the symptoms of Fibromyalgia, a chronic condition that causes widespread pain and fatigue. Rach had already been diagnosed with Anxiety and Depression several years earlier, followed by ASD in May 2017 and ADHD in July 2020. She was also diagnosed with PTSD in January 2021 and lives with Endometriosis.

In September 2018, Rach enrolled at North Hertfordshire College to study Childcare, earning a National Award in Children's Play, Learning, and Development in the summer of 2019. Later that year, she volunteered at a local Keech Hospice Care Charity Shop during the autumn and winter months.

Since creating SEND Yogis, Rach has completed several training courses, earning certifications in 'Yoga and Mindfulness for Autism and ADHD' (March 2020), 'Special Yoga for Special Children - Level 1' (November 2020), 'Chair Yoga' (June 2021), and 'Yoga for Adults with Special Needs' (June 2022).

Currently, Rach is fully devoted to running SEND Yogis, volunteering each month at Keech Hospice Care's Sparklers Group, and working freelance for multi-media platform, BlumeHive. During her free time, Rach enjoys catching up on the latest TV dramas, reading, and knitting, all while indulging in plenty of chocolate digestives.
